CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has announced the latest iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring upgraded camera hardware, more powerful processing capabilities, and longer-lasting batteries. These new models introduce a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture that users can control; additionally, they are equipped with the A20 Pro processor and a redesigned vapor chamber to ensure better sustained performance. The company has also reduced the size of the Dynamic Island while expanding its functionalities. Preorders commence on September 12, with the initial retail release set for September 18.

The revamped Main camera utilizes six laser-cut blades to manage aperture across four different settings, giving users the ability to adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. The interface now includes a histogram to help monitor exposure during scene framing, while Photographic Styles have been enhanced with new controls for texture and grain. For videographers, Cinematic effects can be applied after recording at up to 60 frames per second, and time-lapse recording now supports 4K video with Dolby Vision HDR.
Another feature, called Apple Reference Image, is designed to verify photo authenticity by capturing signed sensor data alongside a Main camera shot. This data is processed into a reference image within Private Cloud Compute, enabling comparison inside the Photos app to detect any visible alterations. Users can then compare the reference with the main photo. Apple has also announced plans to add SynthID support later in 2026. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s worldwide marketing chief, emphasized the improvements in camera capabilities, performance, battery life, and intelligence during the product launch.
New variable aperture control enhances iPhone photography experience
The A20 Pro chip, manufactured using a 2-nanometer process, features a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU, with Apple claiming the GPU provides performance improvements of up to 40% over the A19 Pro. The chip also incorporates a Dual 16-core Neural Engine totaling 32 cores, while a redesigned thermal system positions the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber that offers three times more surface area than the previous generation. Apple states that this new design supports up to 40% higher sustained performance.
Battery enhancements are most noticeable on eSIM-only versions, which utilize space formerly occupied by the physical SIM tray. According to Apple, the iPhone 18 Pro can achieve up to 36 hours of video playback during testing, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can last up to 45 hours. Wired charging can reach 50% in approximately 15 minutes. The eSIM-only models will be launched in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE among other markets.
iOS 27 introduces Siri AI and broader Apple Intelligence features
Both the iPhone 18 Pro models come with iOS 27 pre-installed and support the latest advancements in Apple Intelligence technology. Siri AI enters beta testing on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with additional language support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish arriving in October. Siri AI leverages personal context from messages, emails, and photos to respond more intelligently, and can also act on displayed information directly on the screen. Cloud-based tasks utilize Private Cloud Compute, whereas other features of Apple Intelligence operate natively on the device.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, with the Pro Max beginning at $1,299. Customers can choose between storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. The available color options include black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with sales beginning on September 18 in more than 65 countries and regions. An additional 20 markets will receive the new Pro lineup starting September 25, expanding the product’s availability worldwide.
